What a dieline to 3D mockup does with a flat

A dieline to 3D mockup takes the flat you send to print and shows it folded. The cut and crease lines already describe the structure, so the box does not need to be modelled. It is read out of the artwork you already have.

Cut lines, crease lines and panel boundaries are read as geometry. A tuck-top carton folds like a tuck-top carton. Artwork stays on the panel you drew it on rather than being wrapped around the box and hoping.

Box type and material notes

Rigid board, corrugated, matte laminate, spot gloss. You write the substrate in plain words, and it changes how light behaves on the render. Naming the box type helps when a die shape could fold more than one way.

A background photo

Drop in a shelf, a table or a studio backdrop and the package is rendered into it. Leave it out and you get a clean neutral render, which is usually what a print check wants.

How to convert a dieline to 3D in four steps

  1. Export the dieline flat

    Whatever you were going to send to print. Keep the cut and crease lines visible, because those are exactly what the tool reads to work out the fold.

  2. Name the box type and substrate

    One line. Tuck-top, sleeve, corrugated shipper, matte or gloss. This is also where you flag a fold that is not obvious from the die shape.

  3. Add a background if you want one

    A shelf photo, a desk, a studio sweep. Skip it when you are checking the artwork rather than presenting it.

  4. Render, then keep working

    The folded package lands on a fresh Virse canvas beside the flat. Change the substrate and run it again, or take the render into an edit without exporting anything.

Questions

Does it understand which panel goes where?
That is the core of it. The dieline is read panel by panel and the structure inferred, so artwork lands on the correct face rather than being wrapped around the box arbitrarily.
Can I control the material?
Yes. Box type and material are notes you write, and they change how light behaves on the render.
Can I download the 3D model or a dieline file?
No. What comes back is a rendered image of the folded package, not a mesh, an OBJ or a corrected dieline. If you need a model to hand to a structural engineer, build it from your die file. This tool is for seeing the box, not for manufacturing it.
Will it fix a dieline that does not fold?
No, and it will not tell you that it does not fold either. It renders what the cut and crease lines describe, so a structural mistake in the flat comes back as a strange looking box. Read the render as a check on your artwork, not as a check on your structure.
Does pressing Create run the tool straight away?
No. Your inputs travel into a fresh canvas and land on the tool already filled in, but nothing runs until you press Start there. A link can never spend your credits on your behalf.
Can I keep working on the result afterwards?
Yes. Everything the tool produces arrives on a normal Virse canvas, so you can re-run a single output, adjust it, or take it into an edit without exporting and re-importing.
